Proposed Project

Rocking the Boat On-Water Program

Location: Bronx, NY

Purpose: Provide opportunities for young people to improve conditions of local resources in the South Bronx by implementing environmental monitoring and restoration projects.

Description: Fish mapping, fish and shellfish consumption public education project, upland stormwater catchment monitoring, oyster habitat monitoring, creel surveys, water quality monitoring.

Resource Value: Monitoring projects are accomplished; students put academics and theory into practice, inspiration to act as environmnental stewards, improvements in the quality of the Bronx and East Rivers.

Cost: $20,000 for travel and boat expenses, office supplies, food, navigation equipment, laptop computers, office trailer.
